SPAIN: CYCLING THE CAMINO de SANTIAGO de COMPOSTELA

CYCLING THE CAMINO de SANTIAGO - RONCESVALLES to SANTIAGO de COMPESTELA, SPAIN.

Joyce and I will spend a month in Spain this summer visiting Barcelona, San Sebastian, and Pamplona before starting a 15 day- 565 mile bicycle trip across northern Spain.  We are cycling the famous pilgrimage route; the "Camino de Santiago" with Experience Plus cycling guides.  It has been selected by National Geographic Traveler as one of the 50 tours of a lifetime, and truly an experience not to miss.

We begin in the Basque country in the town of Roncesvalles high in the Pyranees Mountains at the traditional starting point for the Camino. Here we pick up our pilgrims' passports that will be stamped as we progress westward. Our ride from the French border on the Camino de Santiago (Way of Saint James) retraces the journey to the cathedral in Santiago that pilgrims have followed for a thousand years.

Along the way we will explore Gothic cathedrals, visit medieval monasteries, and pedal through the Rioja, one of Spain's premier wine growing regions.  Our final leg into Santiago de Compostela is along the country roads of the beautiful Galician countryside.

James Michener in his book Iberia states: "a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compestela is the finest journey in Spain".  Join us on this adventure of a lifetime!
